Who we Are

Here is a little excerpt taken from our last youth group meeting, before we went out into the surrounding neighborhood looking for service needs and a good game of kickball…

What is God’s Goal for our Youth Group?

To live in Christ-centered Community.

There are three parts to this message.  We’ll start with the first one.  The first part of God’s desire for us is to live.  What does it mean to really live, to be alive?  Well, I think it means that we enjoy life.  We take this gift of our life, our experiences, our moments, our consciousness and we use it all to the fullest of our ability.  Life is supposed to be enjoyed and lived with gusto.  That doesn’t mean go out and experience every sinful thing under the sun.  It does mean that you take every moment for what it’s worth.  Don’t dwell on past mistakes but move forward in your pursuit of Christ.

The second part is that we are a community.  What around you will not last?  There will always be money, entertainment, video games, fame, war, worthy causes, poverty, and millions of other things.  What won’t last forever is your life or the life of the person sitting next to you.  Both of you are finite in this life as we know it.  Take advantage of the time that you have with one another.  Build one another up.  Help each other.  Grow in your love for one another.  Be careful not to hurt or damage your relationships.  But by all means grow together and share together this thing called life.

As Paul said, ‘Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn.’  Share Life in Community.

The last part is the most important part.  The last part is what distinguishes us from every other group on earth.  We aren’t a self-help group where the final goal is to be built up.  We aren’t a civic service group that’s goal is to make the community a better place.  The total end all goal is to please our Savior Jesus Christ.  He is the one whom we have a relationship with.  If we are growing, then we are becoming more like him, and the ideals he stands for.  This means that if we become like Christ then we WILL carry that love of his out to the world around us.  That’s why we pick up trash.  That’s why we give homeless people a few bucks.  That’s why we help everyone around us.  God so loved us, and them, that we now love them like he loves them.  It’s a beautiful thing.

We then went around trying to find a kickball game to no avail…
