God’s Provision

Genesis 22:1-14  Abraham Tested

1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. 2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about." 3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you." 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" 8 Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together. 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. 12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram [a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."

This was where God led me in my quiet time on Tuesday morning and I was reminded how faithful God is in His provision for us. I feel as though I have been tested lately with my faith in His provision. I’ve been unemploed now for 3 weeks and have been searching for a new job meanwhile Andy is gearing up to go back to school in the fall. Our finances & budget are a big topic of conversation and on Monday I pretty much broke down in tears while my husband held and comforted me as I felt so worthless without a job. He reminded me that I do NOT find my worth or identity in a job but in Christ ALONE! Tuesday God brought me back to trusting in Him and believing by faith and not by sight that He would provide. Yesterday we were showered with God’s provision as we learned Andy got a FULL scholarship to cover ALL his schooling expenses (tuition, fees & books) which is just so ridiculously amazing and brings me to tears in a overwhelmed with joy and blessing way. I also will be starting work again next week at Chicago’s Pizza. It is a family owned and operating pizza place and I have known the family ever since I moved here to Indy – I can’t imagine a better family to work with and for. I will be doing a little bit of everything there and we will be fine financially, at least until the fall when I will have to have more of a career type job probably – we’re still waiting to see what God provides then. Right now we’re just praising Him for all His provision!!!!

In other news, I get to be a part of a high school retreat this weekend call The Purity Retreat and I am so pumped to be able to have ‘girl time’ with a bunch of high school girls and amazing leaders and just bask in God’s truth about who He sees us as women and hopefully encourage a lot of girls to live a life of purity with their talk, dress and actions. Monday morning I’ll be heading home to see my best friend and her newest little baby girl, Ana as well as her almost 2 year old girl, Madie as well as beat her husband in a game of Ticket to Ride!  🙂 I’m excited to see their growing family and also get some good time with my parents all to myself.

By the way – I already ran 5 1/2 miles this morning at 6:15am with a group of awesome ladies that slow down for me! The running is going pretty great and no injuries or anything – just a bunch of great long runs to let me think and look around at God’s nature – mostly ice and snow but spring is coming!  Don’t forget to spring forward with your clocks Saturday night! Have a GREAT weekend!
